An outdoor family photo session is a relaxed and meaningful way to capture your family's love, connection, and personality in a beautiful natural setting. These sessions take place at scenic locations—like parks, nature preserves, or open fields—and are designed to feel more like quality time together than a posed photoshoot.

We’ll photograph a combination of posed portraits and candid, playful moments that reflect your family's unique bond. Whether your kids are little or growing fast, these sessions are perfect for creating timeless images you’ll treasure for years to come.

WHERE WILL THE FAMILY SESSION TAKE PLACE?

Outdoor family sessions take place at beautiful local parks and natural areas in and around Lake in the Hills, IL. These locations offer a stunning backdrop of open fields, trees, and seasonal colors—perfect for relaxed, timeless portraits. Outdoor sessions are available from mid-May through mid-September, when the weather and lighting are ideal.

HOW LONG DOES A FAMILY SESSION LAST?

Outdoor family sessions are approximately 1 hour long. This allows time for both posed portraits and plenty of natural, candid moments with your loved ones.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

For the best results, I recommend choosing outfits that coordinate but don’t match exactly. Avoid dressing everyone in the same color shirt and pants—instead, opt for a color palette that suits the season of your session.

A great way to start is by Googling something like "fall color palette" or "spring color palette" to find beautiful combinations. From there, choose a few complementary tones and dress each family member within that scheme.

For example, if your palette includes cream, light blue, navy, and rose:

  • Mom could wear a floral dress with those tones

  • Dad in a cream shirt and jeans

  • One child in a light blue shirt

  • Another in a rose-colored dress with a navy accessory

CAN WE BRING OUR PENTS TO THE OUTDOOR FAMILY SESSION? 

Absolutely—pets are welcome! I love including your furry family members in outdoor family photo sessions. However, it's important that you let me know in advance if you plan to bring a pet. This allows me to choose a pet-friendly outdoor location where they’ll be safe, comfortable, and allowed.

Whether it’s a dog, cat, or another beloved animal, they’re a part of your family and can add a fun, personal touch to your photos.
